There are 216 colors which are considered safe from browser to browser and on different platforms. To represent the color shades of these suedes as best as possible, 216 colors alone simply will not do. The hexadecimal values of color which browsers interpret gives us about 16.7 million colors, but many computers are configured for, or only able to, display thousands of colors.

Refer to the two rows of colors below. The colors in the bottom row are the same as the corresponding suedes chips on the suedes color chart. The top row is the nearest "web-safe" color from the 216 color pallet (notice the web-safe color for 176 and 358 is the same color). If the colors of each of the columns appear to be different, your browser is displaying more than the 216 color-safe palette, and the color differences you may experience are mostly a matter of the brightness and contrast settings of your system. If you can see only five colors, the suedes color chart, and most of the other images on this website, will not be satisfactorily rendered on your screen.

Lastly, we choose to use these computer generated colors for the suedes color chart because the texture of the suedes is finer than the resolution of the computer monitor. These types of color chips are more manageable and a better representation of the range of colors available in the suedes.
